Kohl’s Is Hiring by Phone, Recruiting 90K Seasonal Workers

Want a seasonal job at Kohl’s this year? Phone it in.

The department store is kicking off seasonal recruitment efforts by hosting its second annual “National Hiring Day” event completely over the phone. Kohl’s is looking to hire hordes of seasonal workers to its department-store and e-commerce fulfillment center locations.

“We plan to hire seasonal associates across our network to support the increased demand we experience during the holidays, both in store and through our digital channels including Kohls.com and the Kohl’s App,” Marc Chini, Kohl’s head of HR, said in a hiring announcement. “We know customers will be shopping online more than ever this year and we’re staffing accordingly to support increased digital fulfillment efforts.”

The announcement didn’t say how many seasonal workers the company plans to hire, but a spokesperson told The Penny Hoarder that hiring will be comparable to past holiday seasons.

Kohl’s hired more than 90,000 seasonal workers last year and in 2018.

The 2020 National Hiring Day event is Oct. 3, 10 a.m to 4 p.m. local time. Last year, Kohl’s hired 5,000 seasonal workers during the hiring event, though it was on site.

To take advantage of the same-day hiring event, you’ll need to complete an online application for a seasonal store position or distribution center job.

Pro Tip

Use Kohl’s seasonal job board to find jobs near you or text APPLY to 24508.

After you fill out the application, you can schedule a phone call between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. the day of the event.

Plenty of seasonal gigs are available outside the event.

Seasonal Jobs at Kohl’s

Kohl’s splits its seasonal jobs into two categories: store jobs and distribution jobs.

Stocking, retail sales and fulfillment associates are the three main in-store jobs, based on seasonal job listings. These positions require basic math and technological skills, legible handwriting and an ability to carry 50 pounds. Otherwise, they’re entry level though some customer service experience is preferred.

Distribution jobs include warehouse and loss prevention associates. As a warehouse worker, you’ll need the same basic qualifications as in-store positions, but the job is more physically demanding. Loss prevention jobs require a high school diploma or GED. Preferred qualifications include a background in a loss prevention, law enforcement or distribution center role and knowledge of Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft software.

FROM THE MAKE MONEY FORUM

Kohl’s doesn’t have a company-wide minimum wage or share pay information on its job applications. According to national wage estimates from Glassdoor and Indeed, seasonal pay is around $10 an hour. All seasonal workers are paid weekly and get a 15% discount. If you work 30 hours a week or more, you’re also eligible for health insurance.
